McDonald’s Adds Calorie Count To Menus Across America

Thursday, September 13th, 2012

Fast-food chain McDonald’s will be getting a new addition to its menus in the US—a calorie count for its burgers and fries.

According to McDonald’s, the company will start posting calorie information on restaurant and drive-thru menus nationwide, starting Monday—a move that comes ahead of a regulation that requires restaurants to put calorie counts and other nutrition details on menus.

Jan Fields, president of McDonald’s USA, said that they are voluntarily doing this and they believe it will help educate customers to make better food choices.

In California and cities like New York, it is already required that calories be listed on restaurant menus.

Reuters reports that the national state regulation will apply to all restaurants with 20 or more locations, as well as other retail food outlets.

The new rule will probably set in after the US presidential elections.
