Apple Finally Introduces The iPhone 5

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

As expected, Apple has finally introduced the iPhone 5 to the world.

Unveiled at Apple’s media event in San Francisco, the iPhone 5 will boast a larger 4-inch screen with Retina display and a resolution of 1,136 x 640—or 326 pixels per inch.

The larger screen also has a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio and can now accommodate five rows of apps instead of the previous four.

According to Apple, the iPhone will be made entirely of glass and aluminium—measuring in at only 7.6mm, which is 18% thinner than the iPhone 4s and weighs 112 grams—20% lighter than the 4s.

A new smaller processor called the ‘Apple A6′ will power the device—allowing it to run twice as fast as its predecessors, while using less battery life.

The camera has also been given an upgrade—it has a dynamic low light mode that is capable of taking better pictures without flash; spatial noise reduction; and is now able to take panoramic shots thanks to an inbuilt software.

Apple has also announced that they have replaced its 30-pin dock connector with a smaller jack called the “Lightning” connector, which is 80 percent smaller. According to Apple, the Lightning connector will deliver “improved durability” and is “easier to use”.

Its audio features has also been improved with an additional speaker (a total of three for the iPhone 5) and the phone will come with a special “noise-canceling” earpiece to improve call quality.

The iPhone 5 will also be Apple’s first 4G LTE phone, promising to deliver “Ultrafast Wireless”.

The device will offer similar storage options and pricing as previous iPhone models—16GB, 32GB and 64GB at $199, $299 and $399 respectively.

According to Apple’s vice president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, he said that the iPhone 5 is the “most beautiful product” that the company has ever made.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 will start on 14 September and will be available in stores by 21 September in the U.S., Canada, Japan, the U.K., Germany, France, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Other than the iPhone 5, Apple has also unveiled a new iTunes, a next-generation iPod Nano and iPod Touch.
